Dashcam Install

So I’ve had my Blackvue DR400GW HD II for about a year now, and so far really happy with it.
A few months ago, Blackvue released the DR500GW which had WiFi etc, which i was kind of interested in, since i could connect it to my tablet which i have installed in my car as well.

I wanted to buy an extra camera, so i could record everything behind me, and at the same time use it as a rear camera in my tablet.
Lucky for me, i waited for some weeks, and then i saw rumor about Blackvue releasing a new camera, the DR550GW which had 2 cameras.

Now the waiting time is over and i finally purchased the Blackvue DR550GW 2CH.
A week later, i got it in my mail.

The front camera is a Full HD (1080P) 30FPS, while the rear camera have HD (720P) 30FPS.

It’s the front camera that records both cameras simultaneously to a 32GB microSD card (16GB is included in the package).

The rear camera is connected through a special cable that have both video and power, and is 6 meters long.

Put the cable through the cable channel in the door.

Then, i just pushed the cable up where the roof starts – didn’t have to disassemble anything, so this part was quick and easy.

Blackvue have an app on named «Blackvue», which is free – where you can stream both cameras live on your phone or tablet.
Since i got a tablet installed in my car, this is perfect for me – as you can see here:

Only bad thing so far with the app, is that it doesn’t support vertical screens in the main menu;

Within the app, you can browse through the recorded videos, so you can easily see what you have caught on camera.
Can be useful if you witness an accident, then you can just drag the officer inside your car and show him what happened.. ;-)

I sent Pittasoft (the company behind Blackvue) an email, asking for vertical support, so hopefully this get updated some time soon.

I’ll be uploading a video or two of the PC Software along with some normal driving clips so you can see the quality of both camera some time soon.

Feel free to leave me a comment and tell me what you think, and you can always email me at mail

Does the camera image come to screen automatically when you engage reverse? How to configure that?

as you can read in this post: http://suzukiblog.net/?p=155
i will in my “build 2″ make it so when i put the car in reverse, it will automatically launch the rear camera app.

Basically i hook up the reverse light on the car up to the “CarPC JoyCon Exr”, which is connected to my tablet through USB.
And it translate the signal from my car light to USB key inputs, which i then use software to control on the tablet side.
