Welcome to my Suzuki Blog.

On this blog i plan to show my different builds, such as the tablet installation, dashcam installation as well as other updates that is related to my Suzuki Grand Vitara 2006 1.9 DDiS.

If you have any done anything similar with your car, or have any questions, feel free to post comments, and I’ll try to answer them all.

..And the tablet build continues
June 15, 2014 — 14:40

The tablet build have been dead for some months now because I didn’t find the correct OTG Y cable, that let me charge and use USB devices at the same time.
Now after some time, I finally found a guy in Taiwan that had one that works perfectly.

In this example I use a FM Radio (USB Device) at the same time as the device is being charged. Works perfectly.

Now that I have this problem sorted out, It’s time to complete the build

I’ll keep you guys updated :)

Hello everyone! Not much to update you guys with..
February 18, 2014 — 22:54

So I haven’t had the time to do any updates to my car lately, but I got almost all the parts needed for my new tablet build which I will be focusing more in the coming weeks.
Other than that, there’s not really too much to update the blog with.

That being said, the turbocharger in my Suzuki died yesterday, so most of my next paycheck will go for a new one, as a new one cost about $1800-2000 here in Norway.
Looking into buying a refurbished from ebay for half that. So we’ll see what happens next :-)

Here’s a video of the sound when it died..

I’ll make sure to make a new post soon as I got something to show you guys .. :-)

Small update
November 9, 2013 — 16:55

So in my previous post, I said i would upload some photos of the new molding set..
Haven’t had the time yet to do so, so here they are now.. :)

I have also put on the winter shoes on to my car..

New tires, body moldings and some tablet info update!
October 26, 2013 — 0:28

So haven’t been active with this blog the last weeks, mainly because there was not much to update with.

So, the tablet build is going slowly forward, but there’s still a few things I’m waiting for, such as the radio module and a few other things.
Gonna go down to the post office tomorrow and get the radio module, and see if i get some time to play around with it.

Still got a few issues with the tablet that I haven’t managed to solve yet. Being able to charge the tablet at the same time as i can connect other USB-Devices, such as radio module, card reader, external hdd etc. So, as soon as I got that sorted out, i will put it in my dash :)

Body molding  set
So yesterday, I got the body molding set on the door (view photos of them in this post)

The plan is to mount them on during this weekend. So, as soon I got that job done, I’ll upload a few photos with it :)

New tires!

Today, i got new tires for my Suzuki, that i will use during the winter, so finger crossed for lot’s of snow! :-)

The specifications are;

BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2  235/70 R16 104/101Q 6PR RWL

If they are good on slippery road, remains to be seen! :)
Atleast i can just drive my self up from the ditch.. ;)

Ordered more accessories to the Suzuki
October 4, 2013 — 22:43

Just ordered some accessories to the Suzuki while i wait for the parts for the Suzuki tablet build.

What i bought this time:
Body side moldings for Grand Vitara 4 door

Part Number: 990B0-23005

Grand Vitara Bumper Corner Set 4pcs

Part Number: 990B0-23002

And also a cargo net which can be useful.

I’ll be sure to take a few pictures of the car as soon as i got this mounted :-)

And i actually got the new Nexus 7 a couple of days ago, so gonna play around with it and then I’ll start with the build log.
I haven’t got any of the other parts yet (double din frame, joycon, wires, radio usb dongle  etc), so there’s not much to show just yet.. :)

Suzuki tablet install v2 is coming!
September 29, 2013 — 10:30

After some hard thinking, I’ve decided to make a tablet install v2.
Main reason for doing it all over again, is so i can use FM radio on my new tablet, which isn’t possible with the Galaxy Tab 2 as far as I know.

This is what I have ordered as of now:

nexsus_2013Google Nexus 7 (2013 version) 32GB WiFi.

The release date of the Nexus 7 in Norway is October 4. so I have to wait a few more days before i can start playing with it.I bought the WiFi version mainly because I don’t need the cellular one. Every time I’m in my car, I also have my phone with me, so with some configuration, I will make my phone automatically set up as a hotspot for my tablet, so my tablet get internet connection through my phone. Another good thing with the Nexus 7 is that it supports OTG (On the Go), which means I can connect most common USB devices to it (even a USB hub).
Will get back to how i set this up, in the upcoming build log.

 NewUSB DVB-T RTL-SDR Realtek RTL2832U

Since the Nexus 7 supports OTG, I can now use FM-Radio through this USB Device. That was also one of my main reasons for upgrading.
If possible, I will be using the car radio antenna instead of the one that is in this package, I also won’t be needing the remote control.

So, with the new tablet, and USB hub and probably a few other things that require USB Power, I decided to buy a high quality power charger.
So hopefully this one will do the job.

RCA - JackJack (right angled) to RCA Female

I’m not sure if there’s enough room for this cable when it’s mounted, but most likely I will be using this adapter to get sound over to my amplifier, then over to the car speakers. If not, i can also get sound out of the USB port, using a USB DAC.

otgcableUSB OTG Y

So this is the cable that will make most of the things work inside the car after everything is connected.
This cable let’s you connect to your tablet, then over to a USB Hub. And since this is the “Y” version, you can connect the third plug into the car charger.

double_dinn_frameDouble Din

This is the frame i will be installing my tablet behind. Double Din is almost perfect size for a 7″ tablet.
The reason why i bougth a new double din, mainly because I didn’t want to disassemble my other one, in case this project fails, I can always go back to how I have it now, and the double din frame only cost about $12 or something.

1293620901_7CarPC JoyCon Exr

Since this is the «version 2» of my tablet installs, I didn’t just wanna connect everything together and have an almost identical setup as my previous build. This time i will be able to use my steering wheel controls to control volume(up\down), songs(?) ++.
Or if i put my car in reverse, it will automatically start the rear camera and show it on my tablet. All this and a lot more is possible with this controller. Can’t wait to show you all of this as soon as I’m ready to start the build log!

That is all for now. If you have any suggestions, please let me know! :-)

Thinking about a new tablet – and new tires?
September 26, 2013 — 20:47

So I’ve had my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7″ for 7 months or so now, and been really happy with it so far.otgcable
The only function I’m missing from it is FM radio, which it seems that i can’t get with the current setup that i got.

I’ve been thinking on buying Nexus 7 (2013)  as it has full support for OTG (Over the Go), which means i can connect USB things to it, such as keyboard and mouse. Not that i will be using any of those, but i can use a FM radio that connects through the USB, and with a android app, i got a full funcitonal FM radio.

If i decide to buy this new tablet, I’ll make sure to make a post about it with lot’s of images :-)

I49_WebPhotoAdditional1 have also thought about buying new tires for the winter season..
The one I’m most likely going for is Kumho KL71 245/75 R16 116Q M+S.

I’m not 100% sure yet, but again, I will post here soon as theres something to show :-)
